Find the Coolest Cell Phone AppsGone are the days of a cell phone that only makes and receives calls. Today's phones seem to do everything, from playing music and taking photos and videos, to surfing the web and organizing your life. If you have an iPhone or a BlackBerry, here are some of the coolest applications you shouldn't be living without. iPhone Apps: • iThesaurus – No need to lug around that heavy thesaurus! This free app has over 140,000 words for you to choose from. iThesaurus is constantly being updated, and is on its third version, which even lets you email a word to a friend. • Facebook – Let’s face it, most of us are completely addicted to Facebook. If you want an easy way to keep up with your friends when you’re away from the computer, this cool app will help you do just that. Although it does offer a less detailed version of Facebook than the actual website, most of it’s features are still available. • Lose It! – Counting calories? This awesome app will help you keep track of your daily caloric intake, set goals and record your weight. This app has most regular grocery store and restaurant foods already entered. If you find your favorite food is missing from the list, you can enter items manually and they will be kept in the list for easy access the next time you choose to eat the same item or recipe. • Pandora Radio – It’s like a radio station that instinctively knows what you want to hear. Enter your favorite artist and this app will automatically generate songs that are similar to that artist’s music/genre. It’s a great way to find new music without hours of searching. • UrbanSpoon – Don’t feel like cooking tonight? Let this handy app do the restaurant searching for you! Enter your city and give your iPhone a shake and the options spin like a slot machine, landing on different restaurants in your area. You can enter a specific city, type of food or price range before shaking and get a more precise result. There are ratings, customer reviews, as well as photos of menus. BlackBerry Apps: • BlackBerry Messenger — One of the best Free IM (instant messenger) apps for the BlackBerry. It is a must-have free BlackBerry download, as all BlackBerry users can use it! • Google Maps — Google Maps lets you easily search for businesses, get directions, find your location, and view a satellite picture of the area. By entering your zip code and a category (i.e. “pizza”) this app will generate local results. You can even call the business right from the Google Maps application. • BlackBerry Push Weather — Get weather updates right on your phone! They can be sent to you as a text message or a browser channel on your homepage. Never get stuck in the rain unprepared again! • Spider Solitaire — This free app is great for when you're waiting in lines, riding the bus or when you are simply bored. It’s easy to use and provides countless hours of fun. • Yahoo! Messenger for BlackBerry – This IM (instant messenger) app is available for free on your Blackberry. Not everyone is an IM user, but those of you who are will appreciate the ease of access to your IM account from your phone. This app also links to your computer and other IM accounts seamlessly.
