Office-Friendly Energy Boosters

When do you experience an energy drain at the office? Many people report that theirs generally comes in the late afternoon. Whenever you happen to be hit by yours, here are a few quick tips to help you get past it and on with your day.

Exercise is a great energy booster. When you are at work, you do not always have time to just stop and get in a full workout. However, these simple exercises can boost your energy immediately in mere minutes.

  • Do you have stairs in your office? Skip the elevator and run down them on your way to the coffee shop.
  • Bring your handy travel-sized exercise equipment to the office. This may include a jump rope, hand weights or exercise bands. Take a 10 or 15-minute break and do your favorite exercises to work on building strength in your core.
  • Take a cue from your junior high gym class days (no, not the part where the teacher humiliated you) and throw in some jumping jacks, push-ups and sit-ups. You can do all of them in a small office or even a cubicle.
  • Here is one you probably did not think of: try shadow boxing! You do not have to be particularly adept at it and yes, you are allowed to look silly. Shadow boxing will get your blood flowing and your heart pumping. It is a great stress reliever too.

Get out of the office. Step outside and breathe the fresh air. Take a brisk walk around the block. You will return to your desk feeling alert and refreshed.

Stretching keeps you limber. It is also great for a quick energy boost. You can even do stretches at your desk. Try these from the Mayo Clinic.

Crunch on a few veggies or fruits. Fruits and veggies will keep your energy up – without the sugar crash you may experience from junk foods. Get an entire day’s worth of fruit in a smoothie. Visit SmoothieWeb for a few delicious recipes. Veggies dipped in hummus are an excellent snack as well, as are a handful of nuts or a cup of cottage cheese or yogurt.

Spend a minute on meditation. Meditating clears your mind and calms your nerves. A few minutes are like a mini-vacation. Visit SelfGrowth for tips on meditating.

As you can see, an afternoon energy booster does not have to involve caffeine or sugar. There is a variety of healthy ways to get your heart pumping and your brain engaged before when afternoon doldrums set in.
