How Much is YOUR Time Worth? How much is your time worth? Maybe you calculate the value of each hour in dollars, relaxation or the opportunity to be with your family. Whatever value you assign it, the basic fact is every minute of your time is worth something. Do you spend it wisely? You can simply determine a dollar value for your leisure time, based on your annual salary, with this helpful online calculator from Money Central. Another way to look at how much your time is worth is to think about what you could do in that amount of time. Perhaps you could spend that time going to school, spending time with your family or taking a vacation. Consider how meaningful these activities are to you and what they might be worth. If you decide that spending more time with your family is worth more than whatever other task you had planned (cleaning house, running errands, balancing your books, etc.), you may determine that it is feasible to spend money on something like a housekeeper, or personal assistant, to free up your time. When you consider the possibilities, you might realize there are a variety of tasks in your life that you could outsource in order to save time and, eventually, money. Yard work, snow shoveling, housework, figuring taxes, and miscellaneous errands are all tasks you could have done by a hired assistant, or invest in equipment (such as a snow blower for instances) to make yourself more efficient at completing them. Working efficiently, no matter what the task, is a great way to free up valuable time. For insight into working efficiently, you may want to check out the books “The 4-hour Work Week,” by Timothy Ferriss, and “Getting Things Done,” by David Allen. |
